Work Week Dec 1 - 28

The month of December could not have started better for our family with the arrival of Amy’s parents.

Boppa and Granny with Jonah at the Docks

Having them here for two weeks was the best Christmas present we could have received this year. We continued going to class the first week they were here, then took a complete vacation week the second week including a trip to the beach, a day at the zoo, an evening at the docks, and some shopping at the open air market.

Studying the Imperative tense, Sara teaches us how to make tapioca by giving instructions

The next week we were back into the Portuguese grind, going to class, taking tests (which Amy scored a perfect 100 on!) and studying and practicing outside of class. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were spent in our home with our family. Amy made cookies and wrapped a few gifts, and we watched a Christmas movie together that night. On Christmas Day, the Kings came over for a massive dinner complete with American casseroles (ingredients provided by members at MJ, THANK YOU!).

Giving an oral presentation at school. Can you find the error?

On Sunday we finally met the rest of Sara’s family. They had us over for Sunday lunch. This was our first dinner in a Brazilian home since we arrived here, and it was delicious. Even better than the food was the hospitality we received and the friendships we made. After spending four hours relaxing, talking, and eating together, we went home feeling the best we had since the Picklers left. It was one of my favorite days so far in Belém.

Lunch with Sara's family. Left to right: Amy, Jonah, Sara, her dad, mom, sister-in-law, and brother.

Allowing us to visit you was the best Christmas gift you could give us!! We had a great time. Sara has a lovely family, but I knew she would, she is a lovely young lady. God blessed you with a wonderful Portuguese teacher. I know this was a special day for you all! Thanks for sharing it with us and for the update on your blog, look forward to reading them!

Food and fellowship looks wonderful. What a blessing to find such a good teacher and spiritual person. Keep Studying. I am amazed about how much you and Amy have learned in such a short time. Keep up the good work all around.
