My new plan capitalizes on the fact that I wake up at daylight every morning anyway (on the weekends I go back to sleep). Now, I study Portuguese for an hour in the morning before school and an hour sometime in the evening before bed. In the afternoon, I am free to do my Bible reading, spend time in prayer, run errands, develop contacts, or practice portuguese by talking to others or watching Brazilian t.v.. I can also take a short nap immediately after lunch which powers me on through the day.
Last week, thanks to the new plan, I was able to visit with many of my contacts and practice Portuguese with some of them. There is a Christian that lives about an hour from town. Brian and I visited him one afternoon for the purpose of practicing our Portuguese. He and his family enjoyed the visit, and we had some good practice. His name is Valdir and he has leadership potential. We have been thinking that if we could disciple him into following our mission plan, he may be able to spark some new growth in his city. This might be easier after we have proven ourselves, but that is my hope. I plan to go back on a regular basis. Mr. Phil at Mahogany Moveis received two visits from me this week. He speaks English fairly well and likes to practice with me, but if I talk enough in Portuguese he will revert back some.
I was also able to spend some quality time in prayer. It isn't much, yet, but it is a starting point for me. Right now I am praying about 15-20 minutes per day for the mission, 5-6 days per week. Our team prayed together for about 30 minutes on Sunday morning, and the Mt. Juliet church prayed from 5-6 on Sunday night. I hope that you might join me in specific prayers. A list can be found under the Prayer tab above. If you would like a list of my contacts, please email me, and I can send you one. Also, we send out prayer request emails every week. If you do not already receive this and would like to, email me, and we will add you to the list.
