Work Week October 24-30nwfowler, Comments: 0 |
Some of you might recognize this poster. It was in my neighbors house. This is the Portuguese version. I though it would be cool to learn the names in Portuguese.
The week started off well. I haven't taken a personal day since we have been here. Monday was a holiday and school was closed, so we decided it would be a personal day for Nick. I paid my rent, got my haircut, and went to Mosqueiro Island for an afternoon alone. I took my Bible and Portuguese work along with a novel (The Hound of the Baskervilles) and spent my time divided between the three. It was a wonderful day. Those of you who have to be alone to recharge will know exactly what I am talking about.
That morning I met Ronaldo. He is a young barber working 2 blocks from my house. It was cool to find a real barber shop with several men hanging out and talking about the latest news. This day it was about the election and it was clear which candidate this group was pulling for. I understood enough to know that they were making jokes about the other candidate's theme song!
The rest of the week was pretty normal. I wrote my mission's committee report, studied Portuguese, and ran errands. Brian and I had an extra 6:30 a.m. meeting on Thursday to discuss when and how we will start using Portuguese in our Sunday worship service.
Wednesday was Josiah's birthday and on Saturday we went to his party. Cesar and Gledi were there also. I spent most of the evening talking to Cesar. He speaks English and has lived in Japan and the United States. I enjoyed his company very much and look forward to spending time with he and Brian more in the future.
